Golden State Warriors superstar and US national team member Stephen Curry shared his thoughts on his performance in the final stretch of the gold medal match against France at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Recall that in the Olympic final, the United States beat France 98-87 (20-15, 29-26, 23-25, 26-21).
“Every shot I took… I was confident it was going to go in. It was at the end of a barrage of shots. All I saw was the rim, I didn’t even see who was in front of me. I knew what situation the team was in. But I didn’t stop. That’s what impressed me.”
We always talk about doing what the game asks. In the first few games, I had a few decent looks to do something like that, but it wasn't clicking. Coach reminded me to stay engaged in the game, and that helped me lock in these last two games.
"The game demanded those shots from me, and I was able to knock them all down… The last 2,5 minutes were special. The guys were getting me excited, we were confident in what we were doing, and I was just in the moment, having fun," Curry said, as quoted by Basket News.
It is worth noting that Curry became the first basketball player in Olympic history to make eight three-pointers in two consecutive games. In the final match against France (98-87), Curry was the top scorer for the American team.
During the game, Curry managed to score 24 points, grab 1 rebound, distribute 5 assists and record 2 steals. He remained on the court for 29 minutes and 37 seconds.
“Steph was the heartbeat of this team throughout the tournament,” said U.S. head coach Gregg Popovich. “When the pressure was on in the most important moments, he stepped up and made the plays that allowed us to win gold. That’s what distinguishes the all-time greats: the ability to elevate your game to another level when it matters most.”
