American basketball player Stephen Curry, 36, who has played for the NBA's Golden State Warriors as a point guard since 2009, posted a video on social media celebrating the United States men's basketball team's gold medal at the 2024 Olympics with his teammates ahead of the medal ceremony.
In the final of the basketball tournament, the American national team defeated the French national team. Curry scored 24 points in the game, making 8 three-pointers. It was Curry's clutch play that prevented France from catching up with the Americans.
In the semifinal against Serbia, Curry scored 36 points and made 9 shots from beyond the arc. In total, Curry has now played 29 games for the U.S. national team, with the team winning all 29 games.
The Olympic gold medal marks the first time Curry has won an Olympic title. He previously won two FIBA World Cup championships with Team USA in 2010 and 2014.
“It’s an incredible feeling to finally add an Olympic gold medal to my collection,” Curry said in a postgame interview. “It’s been a dream of mine since I started playing for the national team all those years ago. To be able to bring gold home for my country is truly an honor.”
Curry's performance at the Olympics only further cemented his status as one of the greatest players of his generation. His ability to single-handedly take over games with his lethal three-point shot made him a nightmare for opposing defenses.
“Steph is operating on a different level right now,” marvels one of his American teammates. “The way he can create space and get up there for those long-range bombs is unreal. He’s the ultimate defender – you can never count him out, no matter how much time is left on the clock.”
French head coach Vincent Collet also praised Curry's impact on the gold medal game. "Curry is just unstoppable when he goes out there like that. We threw everything we could at him, but he kept finding ways to knock down those grueling three-pointers. He's the kind of player who can take over a game and crush your spirit."
With his first Olympic gold medal now secured, Curry will no doubt be looking to add more hardware to his illustrious resume. At 36, he may be nearing the twilight of his career, but there's no doubt he's still got plenty of top-tier basketball left in him.
“I’m hungrier than ever to continue competing at the highest level,” Curry said. “Winning this gold medal only fueled my desire to continue chasing championships and cement my legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats. The work isn’t done yet.”
