Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob has shared his thoughts on the potential departure of 36-year-old point guard Stephen Curry from the team.
“From what I’ve heard, Steph has a very simple and understandable mindset — he wants to win,” Lacob said. “If the Warriors were a really bad team, he might consider finishing his career somewhere else. But that’s not the case.”
Lacob stresses that Curry has not considered the idea of leaving the franchise. "Steph has not considered it, and as far as I know, he has no intention of raising it," the owner said.
Based on conversations Lacob has had with the superstar, he believes Curry is happy with the direction of the franchise. “We have a good relationship and he’s happy with the way our team is developing,” Lacob explained.
The Warriors owner is confident the organization is doing everything in its power to assemble a championship-caliber team and give Curry the best possible chance to succeed. "We're doing everything we can to build a great team and play high-quality basketball on the court," he said.
Lacob acknowledges that Curry is nearing the twilight of his illustrious career, but he remains optimistic about the team's future. "Steph is 36, so we have to be aware of that. But we're committed to building a team that can compete at the highest level and give him the opportunity to add more championships to his legacy."
The owner is keenly aware of Curry's immense value to the franchise, both on and off the court. "Steph is not only a transcendent talent; he is also a transformative figure in the NBA. His impact extends well beyond the basketball court, and we recognize the importance of keeping him happy and engaged with our organization.
Lacob believes the Warriors' recent success, coupled with their unwavering commitment to winning, will be enough to convince Curry to finish his career in the San Francisco Bay Area. "We've shown that we can build championship-caliber teams and compete for titles year in and year out. That's the environment Steph wants to be a part of, and that's what we're going to continue to provide for him."
