Curry, LeBron and Durant repeated iconic Jordan, Bird and Johnson photo before 1992 Olympics

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, 36, has revealed that he and his U.S. national team teammates LeBron James and Kevin Durant have recreated the iconic photo of the 1992 U.S. Olympic men's basketball "Dream Team" featuring Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.

"I know that playing in the Olympics will probably be the first and last time of my life. Plus, I'll be playing alongside guys that we may never have the chance to team up with at this level again. It's a special opportunity," Curry said.

“Kevin, LeBron and I got together and recreated the photo of Michael, Larry and Magic that was taken before the Barcelona Olympics. That ’92 team set the standard for USA Basketball, and we wanted to honor that legacy as we prepare for our own Olympic journey.

The original “Dream Team” photo has become one of the most recognizable images in basketball history, capturing three of the sport’s greatest players at the peak of their powers. For Curry, Durant and James, recreating the moment is a testament to the importance they place on representing their country on the world stage.

“These guys, Jordan, Bird and Magic, they are the Mount Rushmore of basketball. To be able to step into their shoes, even just for a photo, is humbling,” Curry continued. “We know the responsibility we have to continue that tradition of excellence. That’s what motivates us as we prepare for these Olympics.”

The United States men's basketball team for the 2024 Olympics features a mix of seasoned veterans and rising young stars, including Curry, Durant, James, as well as Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker and Anthony Davis. Head coach Gregg Popovich has the unenviable task of transforming this talented group into a cohesive unit capable of defending the country's gold medal.

“Coach Pop instilled in us the importance of playing as a team, sacrificing individual goals for the greater good,” Curry said. “That’s the only way we’re going to be successful. We know the world is out there, but we’re up for the challenge.”

The level of anticipation surrounding the USA men's basketball team's quest for a fourth consecutive gold medal is palpable. Fans are eager to see the dynamic duo of Curry and Durant lead the charge, while also witnessing the passing of the torch to the next generation of NBA superstars.

“This is my last outing, so I’m giving it my all out there,” Curry said. “I want to cement my legacy as one of the greats to wear the jersey for the United States. And most importantly, I want to bring that gold medal home one more time for our country.”
